Geodesic Map URL
Geodesic maps measure the shape and size of the Earth. This was first established by Eratosthenes when he was working on the circumference of the Earth. In 1866, North America was measured by Clarke's Ellipsoid. This later became the standard for the North American Datum 1927 (NAD27). This map shows the world and the distances between places. It also shows the best represented size for its kind of map. GPS units still rely on this type of mapping today.
